Mayor's Message

MayorOn behalf of City Council and the citizens of Greater Sudbury, I welcome all the participants of the Northern Ontario Business Awards (N.O.B.A.) celebration. What a milestone, twenty five years! Northern Ontario has truly grown over the years. We have always been recognized for our wealth of natural resources; over the years, we have also become known for the true entrepreneurial spirit that has become prevalent across the North.

We have recently begun to recover from the recession and it has only made us stronger. Our entrepreneurs have become even more dedicated to the growth of Northern Ontario. We've proven to the rest of the province, the rest of the country, that we will persevere.

Business owners in various northern communities have come a long way in overcoming the challenges they face in building successful businesses and organizations in a Northern Ontario. With the recent announcement that Greater Sudbury will house the School of Architecture, we are presented with yet another opportunity to attract an increased amount of business to our area. We are also giving our young people the chance to remain at home to study; people who will continue to further develop our communities.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank and to recognize the organizers of the Northern Ontario Business Awards for their hard work and commitment to this celebration. The NOBA continues to create awareness about the businesses and business opportunities across the north. It provides these worthy individuals and companies who bring economic growth to our communities with well-deserved acknowledgment.

Yours sincerely,

Marianne Matichuck
